Tank or Treat

Tank, the Woos, the cybersibes and some others posted this morning about donating treats to local rescues and shelters.

Our human thought this was a good idea, so she bought a big box of treats and dropped it by the North Valley Animal Care and Control Adoption Center on her way in to her office.

Because she had time, and because we are all still very sad at our house, she thought she would walk around and visit all the dogies.

Well, they only had ONE.  Kobe, a gorgeous 9 month old male rottie.  All full of himself and handsome.  He was marked as a 'stray.'
The cute little volunteer took him out of his cell and our human visited with him.  He was bouncy and curious and liked getting petted and scratched.

It's just too soon.  We are all still too sad.  And you truly have to have all your emotional ducks in a row when you bring a new dog into your house.  Especially a rottweiler.

A very nice thing to do for those pups. And yes, the heart knows when it is the right time. And we all know that when it IS time, the right dog will find you:) It's OK to be sad. It would seem strange if you weren't. But the good memories will start drowning out that sadness with smiles:)

Take care.

Hi my friends.
Its very nice of your family to think of others,,and take treats.
But we also know tender hearts must heal before you can open your home to others. Its the best thing to do.
Your heart will tell you when it has healed and opened up for more love.
I am here beside you, (even if you cannot see me).

Hi Everyone, that was so good of you to donate some treats to your local Animal shelter.

I understand totally your feelings for another dog. It always takes us different amounts of time to start to yearn for another one to love and share with the family. Not to replace, just to enjoy once again, those cheeky antics, those sweet eyes and just that oh so special love, only a pet can bring.

Ruby and Bart will help you decide. Right now just enjoy your memories, shed tears and hug those two beautiful sweethearts, Ruby and Bart. Love Carol (and Stella and Rory)

I'm sure she's being smart to take things slow, but how interesting that there just happened to be a "gorgeous" rottie for her to visit... hmmmm.

Thanks for sharing treats with the homeless doggies.

I think if he were the right one, your mom would have felt a different pull! Maybe he's waiting for a perfect home that just isn't yours this time. I know that it's tough after they're gone, and some days are harder than others!

P.S. Mom wanted me to ask if your mom uses Flickr.

Treats for pups that usually do not get them, that is a wonderful thing.

Giving Kobe some of time and love even though your heart is aching, that is amazing and brave.

You will know when it is time to add to your family but we are so proud that you can open your heart enough to share a special moment with a pup who is so needy. Be at peace.

It's so sweet of your mom brought some snacks to other furfriends. They definitely deserves some treats.

It isn't easy at all whenever our beloved leaves us but time will heal our scars, fond memories will fill up the hollow hole in our heart. One day, your mom will find the one whom she falls in love at the first glance and you will have your new brother or sister.

It took us a long time until we met Orah, she doesn't belong to us but she is our giant darling in our heart. Hopefully, one day...

Yes, the right new dog will come at the right time, and not until. And thanks for the prompt on the treats for shelters.
Best wishes, Gail.

It's so hard to want to do something but know it's not right for all concerned. I know the dogs at the shelter will enjoy their treats, it sounds as though Kobe will get most of them:)

The right dog will find you when it's the right time. I'm sure Kobe's forever family will find him soon.

That's a great idea! I think it takes a while to feel ready for another. It's always so hard to visit the shelters.

There be so many rotties in the shelter where I commed from all the time so I is sure that when you is reddy, there will be one needing a home rilly bad and that will be the luckiest rottie efur to go home with you.

Bless your hearts for visiting!!
I expect that little Rottie was just as happy to have visitors and he was able to talk Rottie with you all. You all definitely need time to heal and get your pack dynamics back in sync...big hugs

Kobe sounds lovely but we agree - it's important to wait until the right time and not rush into these things. And "the right time" is different for everybody. My humans waited nearly 2yrs after we lost Lemon before they felt ready to adopt another kitty - everybody kept asking them when they were going to get another kitty but they just didn't feel ready. I think when the time is right, you will *know* instantly.

Thinking of you -

I know exactly what you mean...You can't rush these things, and when it's time you'll know when it's time to open your heart and home again. I have to tell you that part of the reason why we've never gotten another Golden Retriever puppy is because of the loss of the first Tod. There are just too many memories and still too much emotion, and its been more than 10 years. I just felt I couldn't give my heart to another Golden Retriever puppy, but I could give it to a Scottie, and so I did, along with his name. Its proven to heal more than I ever thought.

Enough of being serious and I'm sorry I rambled ...
I hope you have a HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Thanks for doing the treats for shelters. We did that as well and our Mom went back and walked around as well. She seen a 1 year old Rottie (he was a cutie) then she seen a Husky that looked like he would fit in with The Thundering Herd. She said lots of nice doggies, but she to is not quite ready to bring another one home yet. Not that we don't look, the right one just hasn't come across yet. So we know how hard it is to make these decisions. We will all be ready again one day, but you are so right you must be 100% sure you are ready for another committment to a fur-kid. Hope you are all doing good. Sniffs, The HoundDogs

That is very sweet to go and visit, and when it's the right time there are lots more rotties who would love to be rescued by so wonderful a gang! You must still be sad :( Don't rush the grieving process...when you're ready, your grief will become compost for new life and new joy with a new doggie.

Oh, I bet those doggies were SO happy that you brought them some nommy treatsies to eat!

Mom says she understands. She's not ready to adopt another kitteh yet either. She said when my Angel Sisfur Molly went to the Bridge, she hurried out and adopted my Sisfur Abby. And as much as she luvs Abby, she wishes she'd waited cuz it was just too soon. So you're doing the right thing and you'll know when it's time.

speaking of late, I am sorry to hear about my buddy Gizmo's passing :( I'm still shocked and crying doggie tears. I can only imagine how your family feels. I dedicated a portion of my halloween blog to him <3

take care and stay strong!

Maybe someday soon.. no hurry. Hope Kobe finds a really good forever home. It was really nice and sweet of your momma to drop the treats. Hope you guys have had a safe Halloween.

Marjie said...

We have people asking when we will get another dog. I keep telling them it's too soon. When a dog is as well loved as our Thor or Gizmo, you can't just "replace" them. But I'm glad your human made the visit, and met Kobe.

Elaine Pritchard said...

Taking the treats to the shelter was a very kind thing to do.

What everyone else has said is true. You will know when (and if) the time and the dog is right for your family. Everyone is different and every set of circumstances is different.
