Bart's Birthday Comment-a-thon!!

Yep!  Tomorrow's my birthday
and
I'm gonna be 7!!

Woo-Hoo!!

(She always captures my best side!)

So please help me celebrate my birthday weekend by leaving us a comment.  If it makes us smile, or BOL that would be great because this birthday is a little
bittersweet for me.

I'm the serious one and Gizmo always had a smile on his face.  I miss him so much because there's no one to tell me what to do in the way that he did...

~

For each comment left today through tomorrow, Sunday, December 4 at midnight
we'll donate a dollar to
to help a furiend of ours have some surgery before he goes to his forever home.

~

OK.  Off to do some serious smellebrating!
Have a wonderful weekend!!

I'll post pictures of my PAW-TY next week!

Love,
-Bart, Ruby and Gizmo from the Bridge

Bart's Birthday Comment-a-thon!!

Hi Everybody!!

It's ME, Ruby!
I wanted to let you all know that this Sunday,
December 4, my handsome big brother,
BART turns 7!

And while we'll be celebrating by doing all
our usual birthday stuff, like
hiking, and getting treats and maybe getting
a special surprise,
we're gonna be sad, too, cuz it would have been
Gizmo's birthday, too.

We're very sad that he didn't even make it to 7.

Bart
Then Bart had this really good idea!!

We found out that our my friend Chubs who we
couldn't rescue because Bart's a wusie has
a fractured pelvis and will need to have surgery.

chubs
We thought that since we couldn't help Gizmo get better from his sickies, maybe we can help
Chubs feel better before he goes to his
most perfect home that ever was.

SO, in honor of Bart and Gizmo's Birthday
we're gonna have a
comment-a-thon
to raise some money for Chubs's surgery.
for every comment left on our blog from
Saturday, 12/3 at 7:00 AM through
Sunday, 12/4 at 7:00 PM
we will donate $1.00 to
to help the Chubmeister!

Leave a comment and tell us something funny about yourself. We can use a laugh this year. Thanks!!

Love,

-Ruby

Did I Tell You...

I got to go to the beach!!
Yep, I did!!

this is mom's desktop picture...
Last month, mom and me met mom's friend and her dog Wizard at the beach up by Santa Barbara.

Wizard is a "career change" guide dog for the blind.  That means he had a little bit of separation anxiety and couldn't become a guide dog because they have to be perfect like Brandon's gonna be.
But that was the best thing because Wizard became like his mom's therapy dog when she got very bad sickies a few years back.  He stayed with her and loved her and helped her stay focused on getting better and he made those nasty leukemia cells go away!!

Wizard's on the left, flirting with some random girl...

Wizard is a goldendoodle like

He loved the ocean like crazy!!

He was all zooming in and out of the water and chasing his bumper thingy.  Sheesh!

Why work so hard??

Besides, like I said, it was like the middle of last month and it was like 98 degrees!!

I had to carry the freaking camera bag...
Look at me.  I'm a mess...
Actually, I did get my paws wet, but was not interested in all that running and fetching and everything, even though Wizard was a really nice guy.

The cool part was that Wizard wore himself out, so I got to go to a "dog friendly" restaurant for lunch and I got to lay on the patio and get admired
while Wizard napped in his car :-)

Of course SHE didn't take the camera to the restaurant.

This is the desktop picture on the yaptop...

We're going to go again now that it's cooler.

Sending Rottie Kisses,

Love,

-Bart

Almost Wordless Wednesday...

'Chubs'
SHE got an e-mail yesterday saying that Mr. Chubs had made it to Big Sky Rottweiler Rescue in Wyoming.
They said that he's settling in well, and they agreed with our assessment that Chubs is a bit dominate that Bart is a wimp... and will look to place him either with a female or as an only dog. I put him right in his place, you know...
He was getting checked out by the vet yesterday.
Our paws are crossed that this beautiful boy finds the perfect forever home.

In the event that Bart and I escape capture by the flashy beast in adorable holiday wear,

Happy Thanksgiving to our
Blogville family.

We are very grateful to have you in our lives.

Paw-ty Dawgs: the story behind our hats

Last month, our beautiful dobie furiend, Chloe threw herself a pawty to celebrate her SECOND BIRTHDAY.

Chloe, the elegant hostess, politely greeted her guests with poise.

But she really wasn't having much of that hat stuff...

~

Now, this social event has been well documented in a 6-part series on Miss Creekhiker's blog.  You can read all about it here.

There were hot dogs, and giant cookies. And all of our creek-friends were there.

yep...pretty vicious...BOL!!!
Here's a picture of me and my rhodesian ridgeback pal, Hank...

And here's his sister, Sue, chillin' out.
~

We had three rotties, a dobie, two rhodies, an Australian shepherd and Barticus, an elkhound mix.
We all had a wonderful time celebrating Miss Chloe.

We really love our big, extended pack.
Happy Birthday, Beautiful!!

Love,
Bart and Ruby

Well. It didn't work out...

He was the most beautiful rottweiler that I have ever seen.  He was gentle, obedient, good in the car, nice on the leash.  He had the most beautiful amber eyes.   Unfortunately he outweighed Bart by at least 10 pounds - and he was underweight from being a stray.  He was dominate with Bart, who is a big wusie-boy (Gizmo was the dominate one of the two) and Bart kept hiding under the table and growling.  Chubs, who I've come to think of as 'Thor' was excited-dominate, but could have become aggressive easily.  It was a powder keg. Too much stress for our grieving pack.

I left early for work Saturday morning and had the opportunity to spend several hours of one-on-one time with this magnificent boy.  We walked around the neighborhood where my office is.  He greeted people nicely.  People were drawn to him.  I fell in love; I admit it.

The rescue guy came to get him, and tomorrow Chubs (Thor) is being transported to Big Sky Rottweiler Rescue in Wyoming.  It seems to be a wonderful organization which deals exclusively with rotties.  They seem to know their stuff.

Chubs seemed to have a bit of a limp in his left rear leg.  The first dog I looked at on their site was a beautiful girl who was undergoing surgery for her hip displaysia.  How wonderful if this magnificent boy could get help for his leg out of this.  All of my disappointment at this not working out would be ameliorated knowing he got the treatment he might need.

Thank you, Mayzie, Ranger  and Grandpa J for encouraging us to open our home to someone special.  While it didn't work out this time, I met a wonderful dog, learned more about rescue and found an amazing organization that specializes in rotties all because of you!  Thank you, you little brindle beauty!!

It's been an emotional week...

First I want to thank the readers of our blog for your many kind words of condolence when we lost Gizmo last month and your many insightful and empathic stories as we've been working through this process of grieving his loss to our family.  Gizmo had a huge personality and was a big part of life at chez RottRover and the pain is overwhelming at times.  All of you with a pack of dogs know that the pack dynamics shift after such a loss.  Bart and Ruby have become closer friends and are spending more time in close proximity to one another.  Bart was very sad and lost initially, but he seems to have moved on and bonded more closely with his sister.  He is somewhat more clingy with me - he needs to be close to me pretty much whenever I'm home, but he is such a sweet boy it's easy to accommodate to this.  We've been walking more frequently and socializing often with our extended pack at the creek.

Enter Myzie's Rescue Me Week...

Each day many of you have posted about a wonderful animal in need of a forever home - some from high kill shelters, some from rescues.  Many mornings I've had "leaky" eyes reading about a dog or a kitty or a bunny or a GOAT in need of rescue.  I looked on Petfinder for rottweilers:

Here is Kobe, the young guy I met a couple of weeks ago when I went to deliver treats to the shelter.

HELP!  I'm being pixelated!!

Here's Boomer who's in foster care not far from Chez RottRover.

I started wondering about the woman who had rescued Ruby who said she was getting out of rescue soon because she was getting burnt-out. Maybe I could post one of their dogs and maybe their rescue could receive a donation... Then on Tuesday she sent me this e-mail:

Hi Lisa,

Hope your all well!  Thought I would send you this, in case you know anyone that can take him? One day I will hike with you, but I never seem to have a free day.......

Fw: Big teddy bear of a Rottie - at Camarillo, CA

This big guy has quickly made himself one of the shelter's favorites. Chubs is a friendly 4-5 yr. old male Rottie who appears to get along with everybody, including other dogs.

He hops a little when he runs - as if from an old rear leg injury, but does not appear to be in any discomfort, and is otherwise healthy. He does not show signs of this injury while walking. But at over 100 lbs, Chubs is not looking to be anybody's jogging partner anyway, and is hoping for a soft spot in your living room or den.

Please help this big handsome guy get adopted or rescued before he runs out of time at this crowded shelter. If you can't take him home with you, please consider pledging money to help a rescue save Chubs.

If you have specific questions, please call the shelter: 805-388-4341, then 0 and ask about A537049 (since Chubs might not ring a bell).

Thanks,
Rob & Chubs
Teddy-bear???  Chubs???  OMD!! His picture has been taken down because the rescue has pulled him, but suffice to say he had a great big smile and LIPSTICK!! (He got tutored yesterday...)

Bart and Ruby and I are on our way up to Camarillo in a few minutes to go and meet Chubs.
Mayzie, this may have been Rescue ME Week!!  We'll see.  Regardless, I'll post pictures of the Chubmeister and send you the name of this Rob guy's rescue.

Rottie Kisses!

Tank or Treat

Tank, the Woos, the cybersibes and some others posted this morning about donating treats to local rescues and shelters.

Our human thought this was a good idea, so she bought a big box of treats and dropped it by the North Valley Animal Care and Control Adoption Center on her way in to her office.

Because she had time, and because we are all still very sad at our house, she thought she would walk around and visit all the dogies.

Well, they only had ONE.  Kobe, a gorgeous 9 month old male rottie.  All full of himself and handsome.  He was marked as a 'stray.'
The cute little volunteer took him out of his cell and our human visited with him.  He was bouncy and curious and liked getting petted and scratched.

It's just too soon.  We are all still too sad.  And you truly have to have all your emotional ducks in a row when you bring a new dog into your house.  Especially a rottweiler.

Good-by, Handsome Gizmo

Gizmo told us last night that it was time to go to the bridge.  Our stoic dog told us that the pain was too much.  Osteosarcoma sucks.

Wordy Wednesday With Gizmo

Hi Everybody!  Thank you all for keeping me in your thoughts and sending me positive Power of the Paw.  I can definitely feel the love.

I feel so grateful for all the kindness that's come my way from all of you other blogging dogs and kittehs.  It feels really good to know that you care about me.
My dogtor switched my pain meds so I'm taking tylenol with codeine along with my gabapentin.  It makes me less sleepy than my tramadol did and helps with my pain better.  It's kind of hard for me to walk very far but I go in my way back yard a couple of times a day and that makes my humans very happy. I walk back into the house all waggy and smiley!

I may get to have some acupuncture for my pain and for my immune system if my humans can get the vet to come to our house to do it.  They don't want to transport me in the car, cuz apparently I could easily break my leg where the tumor is and that could be very, very bad...

Yesterday I got to sit out on the front lawn in the sun and admire the view.  That was a real treat.  We'll take pictures so you can see me soaking up the rays California-style.

So that's about it.  I just really wanted to thank all of you for all your nice comments and thoughts.  You are the best!

Love,
-Gizmo

Our Turtlenecks

So a few weeks ago we bought a raffle ticket over at Love and a Six Foot leash for a chance to win these TWO awesome turtlenecks.  And guess what?  WE WON!!

 Gizmo in green and gold

Ruby modeling the purple and gold

Well, now Emily, who donated the turtlenecks is going to be selling some more, along with beautiful doggie sweaters that her mom HAND KNITS as a fundraiser for a certain beautiful elderbull, by the name of Ginger Rogers, whom she is fostering.  You can read about the fundraiser here.  You can order any color combo and any size!  Really.  Not many things come in rottweiler size.  Just sayin.' Go check them out.  You'll be helping a beautiful girl.

Our photos don't really do them justice, but the turtlenecks are gorgeous, stretchy and very comfortable.  We LOVE wearing them!  You know you need one.  Or two...

~

On Sunday, When Kodiak from The Thundering Herd went to the Bridge, he sent us a messege when he met up with our Allie girl.  Here it is:

Sibes and rottweilers...they never do anything in a small way.

We know they are running free together.
