An Update on Me, Gizmo

First of all, I want to apologize for my mom being sorta overly dramatic.  I mean really?  The worst possible news?? Did we have another terrorist attack?  Was she or Dad or our human brother diagnosed with cancer? No, no and no.  Sheesh.  Drama Queen.

my brother Bart, crossing his paws...

So here's the deal:  when I got dropped off for my x-rays on Friday the V.E.T. said that I most likely had a pinched nerve -- I had been limping a lot and no meds were helping -- but that she wanted to rule out osteosarcoma because of my breed and age. So pinched nerve... No big deal, right?  Bart had one and got all fixed up.  So we waited all day to hear, and then when Mom came to pick me up we got TWPN. NOT a pinched nerve... Mom kinda walked around like a zombie for a couple of days.

zzzzzzzzzz

I'm on a medication called gabapentin.  It helps me with my pain and it doesn't make me too sleepy. My dad said it was specifically for long term pain and is also used as an anti-depressant.  I have a pretty big limp but I'm still walking around. And my wagger works great.  (They said that when I was sedated at the V.E.T.'s that I even wagged in my sleep!) I do seem to be feeling better since I've been taking it.

And I'm having visitors, like my Auntie Creekhiker, who brought me us treats! (and snuggles :))

I'm getting lots of treats.  And lots of snuggles and lots of love from everyone.  I'm snoozing a lot.  Yesterday I even got up on the big bed to help Mom "work."  We cuddled, and I snoozed... Oh, and she worked.  Some.

check out my turtleneck.  long story. another post

I especially want to thank my blogging pals for all of their kind words for us.  Today Mom was reading me some of them and her eyes got all leaky.  I just thought they were really nice.  It seems like lots of big doggies, especially rottweilers and great danes get what I have which really sucks.  Lots of families have sent their doggies to The Bridge because of this sickness, so I'm not scared because I know I will have many, many friends when I get there.  I'm just sad that Mom and Dad look so sad.  So I just keep giving them kisses.  And then I take another nap.

More later,

zzzzzzzzzz,
-Gizmo

Gizmo, buddy, you new header is the best ever. Look at all those adorable little bottoms. What a happy dude you are to be all wagging your stump even after being dosed with laughy gas. On the other hand, well, it IS laughy gas.

My momma, she knows all about the bone cancer and big dogs so she worries about that with me, too.

Let your mom spoil you completely. In fact, might want to practice making that limp look worse than it is. Great way to get extra noms and cuddles.

Gizmo, just enjoy every day, and be kind to your mom and dad so that they'll have lots of happy memories of you! I think humans worry a lot more about what's on the other side of The Bridge than we do. I just know that every day that I get to spend with Mom is a good day for me!

I think a lot of us get leaky-eyed reading your blog these days Gizmo, not just your mom!

Just remember, lots of people and dogs have defied their diagnoses and gone on to live happy, productive lives for many months and years.

Sometimes it helps to just breathe light in and out, and imagine healing taking place as you do. Maybe dogs do this all the time anyway :)

Oh Gizmo ~ My peep knows all about that osteoscaroma. Before me there was a Half Pence who looked like me. He had the tumor thing in his back leg. He took the pain meds also. The time my peep and he had together was so special because they just made more time for each other and all the things they loved to do.
The first time I visited your blog I said you had a good heart! It is true what your header says.
Bless you Gizmo

Oh Gizmo – I feel so terrible about how late this is – I'm behind as usual with blog friends – but I'm so sorry to hear about your sickie! I think you're being awfully brave and as a Dane myself, my humans know just how scary those, thoughts can be about bone cancers and stuff like that. It is much harder on the humans, of course, because us doggies just live in the moment and as long as we're getting love, we're happy! By the way, I'm sorry this is a really stupid question and I'm embarrassed to ask it but what is TWPN? We tried to Google that we couldn't find it – I'm sorry if it's something really obvious but we just couldn't work it out!

Anyway, just want to let you know that we are thinking of you from faraway. I'm sending you lots of love and Slobbers, and will be keeping you in our thoughts.

Slobbers,
Honey the Great Dane

Lisa, I'm so sorry. . . I went from laughing so hard at your new header (have I mentioned I LOVE rottie buts???;)) to just crying for gizmo and all of you. having lost two Rotties to cancer I just ache for what you're going through. I wish I had words of comfort, but it sounds like your already doing the most important thing-loving every moment and listening to him to tell you what he needs. I truly believe one of the greatest lessons we learn from our dogs is how to go with dignity, it proves your love for him that you're willing to listen to whatever he tells you he needs. I'm so sorry. . .

Gosh Giz....It took me half an hour to get to the bottom of your comment list just to make a comment.

Like, are you the most loved dog in blogville?

Keep that sparkle in your eye, schmooze out all the guilt you can from your family, eat all the ice cream you want. Do everything they said was bad for you. You have a license to EAT my man......

My Jamie tells me it isn't scary going over the bridge, (today she went over the bridge but came back) so all is good. And besides....your not gone yet.

I am so sorry though that you are ill. I hope the meds keep you from feeling any pain.

Not too good with words, but know that I Love ya Dude and am with you all the way.

That is, if I can find a way through this big line of followers.

I think your Mom and I could have a contest over who is the most dramatic...I think I would win that, especially with what has been going on at our house. But I know how she feels...I've been given the 'TWPN' with the same type of illness and the wagging tail of my special boy is what kept me going on lots of days. I know your heart is one full of courage and strength! And because you are so loved by so many, it will all be the anchor in the days ahead.

Oh, Gizmo. We've been away from Blogville for so long that we didn't know about your bad ouchie. I hate that stupid C word. I think you're a fine, brave doggie and I know however many more days that you get to spend with your family are gonna be filled up with lots of luvins and happiness. And that's a pretty good thing, huh?

I'm just sorry for your humans. Humans take things like this so hard. I feel sorry for 'em sometimes, you know? Cuz we don't think about the future and sometimes the only thing they CAN do is think about the future and what might happen. That must be super difficult.

So I'm sending ALL of you my most slurpiest brindle kisses and I'm hoping your humans can feel the pawer of the paw surrounding them from all around the world.

Loving wiggles & wags,
mayzie (and mom)
