A Real Pain in the Neck... by Bart

I don't know if you know, but back in January when Mom had Jury Duty and was all stressed out all the time I got a pain in my neck!!  What's fair about that?  I went to the vet, who said I had a "pinched nerve" in my neck.  I was really pitiful.  I kept crying out in pain and if Gizmo or Ruby accidentally bumped into me I made a sound like my head was falling off.  Dr. Miller gave me steroids and muscle relaxers and told me not to exercise for two weeks (UGH!!)  OK.  So we did all that, it resolved, and at the end of March I was crying out again.  More steroids, more muscle relaxers.  Mom decided to look into other forms of treatment.  Dr. Miller referred us to The Holistic Veterinary Center.  That's where I met Dr. Lane and Mia *sigh*.

I've been having acupuncture treatments and taking herbs just for my neck and shoulders; and they've even taught Mom how to give me a massage and stretch my shoulder muscles!

Here I am with some acupuncture needles in me.  The coolest part is that while they are inserting the needles, they distract me with TREATS!!  And you know who gives 'em to me?  Mia!  *sigh* She's so awesome.  The needles don't hurt me one bit.  At first I sort of just stand there, then I sit and pretty soon I'm SOOOO relaxed and I just lay down and do some meditations.

AAAAHHHHHHHHHHH.....

Also, I'm supposed to walk, just little short ones.  So I've been following this routine for about 8 weeks now, and boy! am I feeling better!  I'm more playful, I'm being silly talking to my mom and playing with toys and all kinds of stuffs that I hadn't been doing for a long time.

Today Mom took Me and Ruby to the creek. (Gizmo has a sore elbow.  Sheesh!!)  We had soo much fun!  Here I am.  Aren't I just so handsome?!? Oh, and I'm not supposed to wear a collar so I got a new harness just like Jack and Mango and Dexter have...

Here I am being a dutiful Big Brother watching Ruby body surf... Be careful, Ruby...

I feel so much better.  Thanks, Dr. Lane.  Oh, and thanks Mom :-)

Have a fun weekend, everybody!  And enjoy feeling healthy!!

So, those needles don't bother you? My mom's been considering getting acupuncture for years (for herself, not me), but she always wimps out! We know some people and doggies who swear by it!

You look great in your harness! You know, I can't wear collars either. I have a weak neck and act like I am choking. The vet suspects my former people kept my collar too tight. My harness is green, but I kind of like your red one!

We had no idea, Bart, that you were having pains like that. How wonderful that those needles are helping you! We love how cool you look in that vest. And your Mom got some awesome pics too. You do look like R!!! Hope things continue to improve for you.

Those needle looks so scary but I'm glad they worked and you can run and zoom now! Love your action shots, you look like a hero running for a mission!!!
BTY, I wonder this needle thingy can be done on me or not. What I'm worried is that the masseur can't get all the needles out from me as my coat is long and thick. Oops!!! Never want to imagine the consequences of having those needles left on my body : )

I was very suspicious that those needles could actually make you feel better, but those pics are proof. Great action shots!

Oh Bart, you so remind me of Beryl when you are doing your zoomie ... except you haven't got an evil grin on your face like she has when she pretends she's going to crash into me! Frankie has got a harness just like yours and his is red too. You look very handsome wearing it:)

I've had acupuncture too and it doesn't hurt at all, does it! Looks like you're making a full recovery, it's wonderful to see you having such a great time:)

Oh Bart, how lovely to see you out and about and having such fun. Even the acupuncture (which would would have thought would be scary - someone sticking needles in you, indeed) sounds quite enjoyable, what with Mia and the treats. So nice to wake up on Saturday morning and read a 'good news' blog.

PS In answer to your comment on my blog, oh I do now feel so embarrassed, having just googled the term 'blow-hard'! It's not an expression we use in the UK (or at least I'd nor heard of it, but then I am a dog, and only 15 months old...) I have to say that Gail in person really rather quiet and reserved!

Bart, we're so happy to see you feeling so much better! It's great to see you zooming with such glee. Do you have to have the treatments forever, or is your conditioned cured? And what's with Gizmo's elbow? Maybe you should take him with you when you have your next treatment?

You did a nice post about your mom. What about your dad?
