sunday selfie and update...

by Otto

I'm so bored.  It's raining.  Despite my love of swimming, I REFUSE to go out in the rain and get my paws wet.  No way!!  Also, mom is working a lot and I haven't been able to see my girls as much as I'd like to.  Butt I'll survive.

The other big bummer is that Ruby doesn't seem t be getting any better.  She and Dr. Ann have tried all sorts of different food/med combos and Ruby just keeps barfing.  If you don't remember, she has mega esophagus which means her esophagus is all stretched out and it doesn't push the food into her stomach like it should.  So it just sits there.  Most recently mom has just started feeding Ruby like she used to - same amount, same proportions of canned and kibble, and that seems to be helping.  She just barfs saliva.  But lots and lots of times a day.  I feel really bad for her.

Dr. Ann has a new thought about a diagnosis
myasthenia gravis.
It's a neuromuscular disease which is an autoimmune disorder which sometimes effects the esophagus.  Ruby will start a new med, mestinon, tomorrow.

Ruby has good days and not so good days.  Today is a good day.  Good energy and very little barfing.  Our house is pretty stinky, though, I gotta tell you!!

This is Ruby in repose...She has a double-high bed with lots of blankets and towels and comfy stuff on it.  She is in really good spirits, her tail works really well, and most importantly, she loves to EAT!!  She gets SO excited and jumps up and down.

~~~
We hope you are all well.  We visit you all, butt don't always comment.  We saw some really delicious-looking tacos this morning and were extremely impressed that Bertie found tacos in Aberdeen, Scotland!!
Please keep Ruby in your thoughts and hope that next time mom makes her schedule she doesn't over commit like she did this time.  Weirdo...
Have a good week!!
Rottie Kisses,
-Otto
Otto, tell Mom to send you here - Lightning has plenty of energy to spare and we haven't had much rain lately. So you won't have to get your feet wet.
We are so very sorry to hear that Ruby is having to go through so much, and Mom too. We hope this new med helps her a lot.
We thank you very much for all the very nice comments you leave on our posts - they are very much appreciated.
I'm so glad I was able to stop by this evening. I'm sorry however to read about Ruby -- She has the same symptoms that our boy Buddy has, but the vets haven't said anything about maybe it being his esophagus -- I wonder if that's what's making him throw up all the time... But for Ruby we're sending our best POTP that she feels better soon. Have a good week, and take care!!!
Dear Otto,
Thank you for the update! I do not like wet paws either. When it is raining I must pee in the garden instead of on the grass. The people make a Big Deal out of this, but I think you might understand!
We are sorry to hear the Ruby is not-much-improved, but glad that she has you for support and your person for taking such good care of her and not giving up! We are sending many wags her way.
I hope your rain stops soon so you can go out to play!
Licks,
Cobi
Rain! Well, we're with you on that. We don't like our backs wet...well, except Dui, he hasn't the sense to come inside when it rains. We'll keep the POTP and crossed paws for Ruby. We, too, were impressed with Bertie's taco--after a 5-year wait, BOL!
Hi Otto, thank for the update, but we are so sorry to hear about Ruby's problems. That must be so difficult for all concerned. Paws crossed that the vet finds some medication that helps.
But Otto, what is this about liking swimming but not being prepared to go out in the rain and get your paws wet? That doesn't make any sense at all! (I am just the opposite).
Toodle pip!
Bertie.
PS The taco was yummy, and my digestive system coped fine, although I did need quite a long drink of water after eating it.
Otto I'm with you, walking in the rain is a no-go... and I can't believe that the American in Pawris likes even to sing while getting wet from rain ... crazy...
I cross my paws for your Ruby and I hope the new med brings more more good days to your girl... hugs to you all
Dear Ruby,
Younger packmates are indeed most annoying... I hope things get figured out soon for your eating!
Dear Otto,
I do not like wet paws either, but I will brave it for my Walk! (Not for peeing, however. I will only pee on dry grass, or dirt.) We hope you get out to see your friends soon!
Ojo said...
Hi hi hi! Ojo here! Otto, maybe you could be my body guard? Cobi often plays this role, and I must say that she is quite good at standing between me and even gigantic Dogs like Great Danes, but in this case she was of no help... I'm little you know, only 32 pounds, so maybe having a big guy like you around would have scared off those crazy whippets!
Poor Ruby, we here in the canyon will keep her in our thoughts and prayers.
Dear Otto,
We are very grateful that you are at our sides for Walks. We have not had any scary Dogs in days - it must be because of YOU!!!
Hi Ruby, Otto and Lisa!!! Thanks for stopping by our blog.
Jeez!!! I sure hope Ruby's feeling and the new protocol is working!
We have had a horrible time with blogger and lost our reading list at one time. I'm so glad you stopped by!
We're really happy to be back on the road. We have half a plan to get out to Cali, but I think probably south of you.
We're keeping our paws and fingers crossed for Ruby!!
Dear Otto,
We got to the snow by getting in Truck, driving for a Very Long Time, and then going up a big hill. Do you have a Truck to take you for a long drive, and then up a hill? If not, I will try to put some snow in the mail for you the next time I find it!
